Last weekend, because it was the final weekend of my holiday week (which was spent moving and doing un-fun things), we decided to go camping. Sailing camping. It was my first time on a sail boat, and I won’t deny that it was a bit sketchy. Our trip out to the island that we were going to camp on was fairly smooth, despite the fact that the motor ran out of batteries, we were caught in some choppy currents and couldn’t get enough wind to make it around the point to the beach we wanted to be at and had to turn around and go to a different beach. Once we finally set up camp, the beach on the island we picked, turned out to be incredible with no one around except a few birds and crabs.

The next day, we decided to wait for the tide to rise to where the sail boat was beached high on the sand. This was maybe not the best idea because as the day went on, the sky grew cloudier, rained on and off, and we could see a bit of a storm brewing off in the distance. Plus, the radio told us there was a small craft warning and there was threats of high winds. With the sail boat completely loaded up with our gear and us four (the max capacity), we were sitting super low in the water. All was okay until it started raining and we hit the currents, which by that time were fairly powerful. Chris decided it might not be such a bad idea to turn on and position his radio beside him and Caitlin and I decided it might not be a bad idea to put on a life jacket.

All turned out well – we made it back to shore over 2 hours later and I determined that I’m definitely a fair weather sailor and that a fully charged motor (or two or three) is necessary.
