I’ve moved my blog over to Blogger because it is more customizable and has more features I’m looking for.

You can link to my new blog HERE :)

I finally downloaded some of the pictures off my new camera onto my computer and I thought I’d share a few.

So I succumbed the other day to Twitter. A lot of fellow bloggers have it, and though none of the people I actually know in person have it, and therefore I have no friends or followers or whatever, I think it’s a cool idea. I like updating in mini-feeds. I like the status updates Facebook has to offer, and so it was a natural transition to love tweeting. Except that WordPress also doesn’t have the capabilities to add your twitter feed to your blog – which Blogger does. Which makes the score something along the lines of Blogger 17 – WordPress 0. “So just move your blog already!” you’re saying. I know, I know, all in time. ;)

Life equations

Life is busy + work is stressful = little updating.

I’m thinking of ditching this blog altogether and transferring it over to Blogger where I’m actually able to customize my site more by editing my HTML and CSS code. (I have to PAY to do it here.) Which is what I really miss without having a real website. I think I might just buckle down and buy some webhosting and get over myself… Because I would really like to get more into web design. I’ve been reading up on CSS lately and this weekend I’m going to try my hand at it. Other things on my list are: further developing my HTML skills, learning XHTML, and learning JavaScript (I know a small, small amount).

So many things to do, so little time. I still haven’t played around with my new camera as much as I’d like either. Sigh. :(

Ahoy!

Last weekend, because it was the final weekend of my holiday week (which was spent moving and doing un-fun things), we decided to go camping. Sailing camping. It was my first time on a sail boat, and I won’t deny that it was a bit sketchy. Our trip out to the island that we were going to camp on was fairly smooth, despite the fact that the motor ran out of batteries, we were caught in some choppy currents and couldn’t get enough wind to make it around the point to the beach we wanted to be at and had to turn around and go to a different beach. Once we finally set up camp, the beach on the island we picked, turned out to be incredible with no one around except a few birds and crabs.

The next day, we decided to wait for the tide to rise to where the sail boat was beached high on the sand. This was maybe not the best idea because as the day went on, the sky grew cloudier, rained on and off, and we could see a bit of a storm brewing off in the distance. Plus, the radio told us there was a small craft warning and there was threats of high winds. With the sail boat completely loaded up with our gear and us four (the max capacity), we were sitting super low in the water. All was okay until it started raining and we hit the currents, which by that time were fairly powerful. Chris decided it might not be such a bad idea to turn on and position his radio beside him and Caitlin and I decided it might not be a bad idea to put on a life jacket.

All turned out well – we made it back to shore over 2 hours later and I determined that I’m definitely a fair weather sailor and that a fully charged motor (or two or three) is necessary.

Fate made me do it

So. I bought the camera. It was fate, I swear, today I had to have it. (I had to have it sometime within two weeks actually, because Future Shop had it on sale for the lowest price I’ve ever seen, even comparing to online.)

I started out my day thinking I would not buy the camera because I realised that after my rent cheque went out I didn’t really have an extra $600+ to be blowing. BUT, fate dealt its hand by way of a nice bonus cheque from work and I thought, fuck it, I’m buying this sucker. I think those words seriously went through my head. I made sure to make my day oh so productive with all the errands I ran (this is my holiday week off work and it’s been mostly filled with packing, moving, unpacking, and errands) and it ended with purchasing my new camera! It’s a dream – you don’t know how long I’ve been lusting after DSLRs.

There’s a bit of a learning curve, though, as all my other digital cameras have all been Canon and because I couldn’t afford a sexy Canon DSLR, I sided with an Olympus, and I’ve been trying to get my fingers to navigate smoothly around all the buttons. Because there’s a lot of buttons. I’ve been taking some test shots but my camera is currently able to hold only 8 pictures because I turned down the over-eager salesguy in Future Shop who offered me new memory cards and other accessories, thinking I could just use my 2 GB card from my old camera. But of course it’s not the right kind, so I dredged up an old 16 MB (YES 16 MB, you heard me) card from my first digital camera ever which happens to be compatible! Thus, next purchase = new giant memory card!!!! As soon as I get that I’ll be posting more of a photo blog – that is the plan :)

Summer on the Patio

I’m writing this while sitting on a pile of blankets which I’ve made into a bed out on the patio. It’s way to hot to be sleeping inside tonight. Our apartment is on the 3rd floor and its giant windows face south, so that when the sun comes up bright and early, the apartment becomes a greenhouse. AKA it gets super hot and stuffy. Outside it has actually cooled off to a decent temperature (the weather network tells me it’s currently 19 C) compared to inside, and therefore instead of sleeping in a sheet or nothing in the bed and getting sweaty, I’ve decided to sleep outside. It’s actually really comfy, cozy, and cool, and all of the above make me a happy girl.

Avocadoes

I’m in a love affair with avocadoes. You know how you see some people just biting into a tomoato as if it were an apple? (I always think those people are a little weird.) I’m pretty sure if I had a nice, ripe, peeled avocado in my hand, I’d be just fine taking a giant bite into it and wouldn’t think that was weird at all. Yum.

A Meter of Ped-ing

Today at work I got a free pedometer. I think the concept of pedometers is pretty cool, because you know, I don’t think people realise how much you walk during the day! So I clipped it onto my pants and took a couple steps – wait, 7 steps? Those 4 steps were 7 steps? Uh oh, and now I’m standing still and I just walked a step? Okay, I didn’t really think that a free pedometer was going to be that accurate. But then I read the directions and it said you needed to place it at knee-level. Now, my question is this: how do you attach a pedometer clip to your knee? Who has a belt loop / pocket / attachable place for a pedometer on their knee??? And I was wearing dress pants at the time, not cargo pants (not that I even own any of those). So I grabbed an elastic band and decided to elastic the pedometer to my knee to see if that would be more accurate. Answer? NO. Advice? Don’t rely on your free pedometer for your workout stats.

Spilled Milk

So today is my day off from work and I decided to check out this new/renovated produce store on my way home from class this morning. It ended up being really cute and I came out with a bag loaded with satsuma oranges, peaches, grapes, corn on the cob, tomatoes, radishes, and avocadoes. But, I also needed to buy milk, and they didn’t carry anything except produce at the store I had just been in. So, my milk required a special trip to Thrifties on my way home.

Back at the apartment, I was juggling my 3 bags of groceries in one hand, my milk jug and keys in the other while trying to fumble for the elevator button. I tried to press the button with the milk jug itself and as I did so, I lost my grip on the carton and it crashed to the floor, spilling its contents ALL OVER the tiles. I stood there in horror for a moment as the milk splashed up my pant legs and onto my flipflops before snapping to it and grabbing the milk jug off the soaked ground. I felt like I was fleeing a crime scene as I stabbed anxiously at the elevator button again and hopped inside leaving a giant pool of milk evidence behind. (Don’t worry, I went back down and cleaned it up.)

No crying over spilled milk, right??
